Problems can arise with your worm farm for a number of different reasons.
If you have bugs or other pests, you should use containers with a tight lid.The lid will stop many pests from getting into the worm farm and causing contamination.Nevertheless, you may find small vinegar flies. That occurs when the worms are overfed. If there is excessive food, you will see larger flies.
If ants show up, it means that the soil may be too dry.If so, pour some water into the soil to provide moisture and get rid of the ants.It may also mean that your worm farm has too much acid. Simply add some water and lime where the ants are congregating.
If you have meat (you really shouldn't have it for the worms), you will see maggots.Get rid of the meat and don't feed anymore to the worms.Get rid of maggots by putting a piece of bread soaked in milk in the worm farm. The maggots will stick to the bread, which you can discard.
If there is a lot of rainfall, drain off excess water to prevent the worms from drowning. You may also add paper and cardboard to soak up the water.
If your worm farm smells, it is because the worms are unable to consume the amount of organic matter provided. Worm food can be wrapped in newspapers and stored in a cool area or the refrigerator.
Use a Hessian cloth to keep worms cool if the temperature is extremely hot. Worms breed in the shade.
If you noticed that the worms are trying to leave the farm, it means that there are problems as the worms don't like where they are and want to go elsewhere.Correct the problem as soon as possible.
